Google just dropped major upgrades to Gemini Live that fundamentally change how users interact with AI assistants. The company's conversational AI can now provide visual guidance by highlighting objects on your screen in real-time, deeply integrate with Google apps like Calendar and Tasks, and respond with dramatically more expressive speech patterns that adapt to context and user preferences.
Google just transformed its Gemini Live assistant into something that feels less like talking to a chatbot and more like having a conversation with someone who can actually see and understand your world. The company announced sweeping upgrades today that add visual guidance capabilities, deeper app integration, and dramatically more expressive speech patterns to its conversational AI platform.
The headline feature arrives as visual guidance, where Gemini doesn't just see what you're pointing your camera at—it actively highlights and identifies objects directly on your screen. "These real-time visual cues create a powerful new way to learn and solve problems together," Google Director of Product Management Angela Sun explained in today's announcement.
The demonstrations show Gemini identifying the right wrench in a toolbox by highlighting it with an on-screen overlay, or pointing out spice substitutes by drawing attention to specific jars on a shelf. It's the kind of augmented reality integration that feels inevitable in hindsight but represents a significant leap forward in practical AI assistance.
Google says the visual guidance feature will launch exclusively with the Pixel 10 series when devices hit shelves on August 28, then roll out to other Android devices that same week. iOS users will get access "in the coming weeks," according to the announcement.
But the visual upgrades are just the beginning. Google is also dramatically expanding Gemini Live's integration with the company's ecosystem of apps, building on existing connections to transform the assistant into something that can actually manage your digital life through conversation.
