Nvidia Robots Can Dream — What Comes Next For Robotics?

Yesterday at Computex 2025, Nvidia unveiled significant advancements in its robotics strategy, reflecting a deeper push into the lucrative humanoid robotics market, estimated to reach $40 billion by 2035. Central to this push are its' new products like the Isaac GR00T platform, designed to produce synthetic training data, and NVLink Fusion, which integrates Nvidia's Grace CPUs with third-party AI processors to offer custom hybrid solutions. Early adoption from industry players like Boston Dynamics and Agility Robotics signals a strong market reception. In addition GR00T-Dreamsis a revolutionary blueprint for training via video-dreams to drastically reduce the time and cost of training humanoid robots.

Robotics Funding Hits New Heights

This announcement occurs as VC interest in U.S. robotics investment is notably strong. SoftBank, previously instrumental in the growth of Boston Dynamics, is now leading a $500M round in Skild AI, valuing the startup at $4.2 billion. Skild, specializing in foundational AI models for robot management, exemplifies the industry's trend toward integrating software and hardware. It has recently expanded into hardware production, enabling further improvements to its AI models through direct data collection. Besides Skild, SoftBank is also leading a $40 billion funding round for OpenAI, which is also reportedly mulling its own robot effort.

Other notable funding rounds under negotiation include:

Humanoid startup Figure AI — it is aiming for a massive $1.5 billion raise at a $40B valuation co-led by Parkway VC and Align Ventures. Thats a huge jump from its $675M Series B in 2024 at $2.6B which included OpenAI, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Jeff Bezos. The startup has ended its partnership with OpenAI to develop its own in-house AI, also opting for a tighter loop between hardware and software.

Agility, which builds humanoid robots to work in warehouses, is also currently seeking $400M to expand. It is one of the early users on Nvidia's GR00T platform.

Foundation, launched by the former CEO of failed fintech Synapse, is apparently seeking capital at a $1 billion valuation within just a year of its founding.

This investor enthusiasm aligns with projections indicating rapid growth in the broader robotics sector, anticipated to expand from $53.74B to over $280B by 2034. As Sam Altman testified to a Senate Committee this month, “AI-powered robotics could push AI-driven productivity gains into the physical world” by 2027. Meaning this robotics VC fever dream may well spike in the next two years.

Trade Tensions Hit Robotics

It's not all plain sailing. The trade tensions between the U.S. and China significantly influence this dynamic. American robotics firms depend heavily on Chinese-made components, including sensors and actuators, making tariff-induced supply chain disruptions particularly impactful on both countries. Expanded chip controls limiting China’s access to advanced AI chips could give US humanoid makers an edge, but Chinese companies make up 63% of the global humanoid robot supply chain.

Also, China's rapid advancements in robotics present direct competition. Recent showcases at the Canton Fair 2025 revealed that Chinese humanoid and surgical robots now rival, and often exceed, their U.S. counterparts in performance and cost-efficiency. Chinese companies have significantly increased their domestic market share, supported by governmental incentives and policies promoting technological self-reliance.

Beijing has invested millions in state funding to support a homegrown supply chain. Companies like Baidu and Horizon Robotics are developing algorithms and chips for humanoid robots. And yesterday, Huawei unveiled laptops powered by its own native silicon and HarmonyOS, robotics cannot be too far behind in the sovereignty quest. Jensen Huang himself, openly acknowledged China’s competitive position in AI, citing companies like Huawei as formidable peers in the long-term race.

The Military Robotics Dimension

The Pentagon funding directed toward companies like Agility and Anduril highlights another major strategic interest in maintaining U.S. robotics supremacy in military-grade applications. This backing indicates the elevated stakes and strategic importance placed on technological leadership in robotics by both VCs and the government.

Nvidia’s Role in Shaping the Robotics Future

Nvidia occupies a crucial dual role as both a key provider and potential competitor in the robotics ecosystem. Its' technological infrastructure could decisively impact whether American robotics startups successfully scale and beat their Chinese rivals. U.S. companies benefit from substantial VC funding, but trade policies and complex supply chains could be equally critical to their long-term success. This is a risk factor to consider, but it doesn’t seem to be causing VCs much stress.

“AI-powered robotics could push AI-driven productivity gains into the physical world” by 2027.”

– Sam Altman, Testimony to the Senate Committee on AI.
