Amazon just slashed its Echo Frames smart glasses to an all-time low of $115 for Cyber Monday, down from $300. The prescription-ready models throw in a free Echo Spot smart alarm clock, creating a $265 savings that's making smart glasses suddenly affordable for mainstream adoption.
Amazon just made smart glasses accessible to the masses. The company's Echo Frames smart glasses plummeted to $115 for Cyber Monday, down from $300, while prescription-ready models include a free Echo Spot smart alarm clock worth $80. The total savings of $265 represents the steepest discount yet on Amazon's wearable AI play.
The timing couldn't be better for Amazon's wearables push. Smart glasses adoption has been climbing steadily, with Meta leading through its Ray-Ban partnership, but high prices have kept the category niche. At $115, Echo Frames undercut the Ray-Ban Meta glasses by $250, suddenly making AI-powered eyewear competitive with premium traditional frames.
"I felt the tech was finally good enough to make a smart pair my daily driver," The Verge's Jennifer Pattison Tuohy wrote about her purchase decision. The reviewer had been eyeing Ray-Ban Meta's second-generation glasses but the Echo Frames' price drop "made them a far safer bet for my first foray into smart glasses."
The Echo Frames pack six hours of audio playback through an open-ear design that lets users take calls, stream music, and interact with Alexa without blocking ambient sound. The glasses now support Alexa Plus, Amazon's LLM-powered voice assistant that handles complex queries beyond basic smart home commands.
What sets Amazon's approach apart is the deliberate camera omission. While Meta's Ray-Ban glasses include built-in cameras for photo and video capture, Echo Frames focus purely on audio and voice interaction. "I'm not ready to wear a camera on my face all day," Tuohy noted, highlighting privacy concerns that still make many consumers hesitant about camera-equipped wearables.
This distinction could prove crucial as the smart glasses market evolves. Amazon's bet on voice-first, camera-free devices addresses privacy anxiety while keeping costs down. The strategy mirrors Amazon's successful Echo speaker rollout, where affordable entry points drove mass adoption of voice AI.
The bundled Echo Spot sweetens the deal considerably. The $80 smart alarm clock has become a favorite among Alexa users for bedside tables, offering voice control and smart home integration in a compact form factor. Including it free with prescription-ready Echo Frames creates a compelling smart home starter package.
