Amazon spokesperson Rachel Erickson confirmed the dates to The Verge, ending months of speculation about when consumers could actually get their hands on the company's first color e-ink tablet.
The timing puts Amazon squarely in the holiday shopping window, though the company's decision to skip preorders suggests they're confident about inventory levels. It's a notable departure from typical Amazon hardware launches, which usually feature weeks of preorder buildup.
Both new Scribes pack 11-inch screens into remarkably thin 5.4mm bodies that weigh just 400 grams. That's actually thinner than an iPhone Air, making these among the sleekest large-format tablets on the market. The screens feature what Amazon calls "texture-molded glass" designed to create better friction when writing with the included stylus.
The premium Colorsoft and frontlit Scribe models use miniaturized LED systems for even lighting across the large display.
