Belkin just issued an urgent recall for 83,500 iPhone accessories across the US after battery defects caused fires and burn injuries internationally. The company's Auto-Tracking Stand Pro and two power bank models are overheating due to manufacturing flaws, prompting immediate safety warnings from federal regulators and full refunds with 20% bonuses for affected customers.
Belkin is scrambling to contain a major safety crisis involving three of its most popular iPhone accessories. The accessory maker just announced a recall of 83,500 devices sold through major retailers after manufacturing defects caused lithium-ion batteries to overheat and catch fire.
The recall affects Belkin's Auto-Tracking Stand Pro for iPhone (model MMA008) and two versions of its 20,000mAh BoostCharge USB-C PD Power Bank (models BPB002 and PB0003). According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the devices pose "fire and burn risks" due to defective battery components that can overheat without warning.
While only one fire has been reported in the US so far, international incidents paint a more concerning picture. The CPSC documented 15 reports from other countries, including two people who suffered minor burns and property damage totaling $37,765. These numbers likely represent just the tip of the iceberg, as many consumers don't report non-injury incidents to authorities.
Belkin distributed these devices widely between August 2020 and August 2025 through its online store plus major retailers including Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and Amazon. An additional 2,385 units were sold in Canada, bringing the total recall to nearly 86,000 devices across North America.
The recall particularly impacts iPhone users who rely on Belkin's Auto-Tracking Stand Pro, which uses Apple's DockKit technology to automatically follow subjects during video calls and content creation. The $180 accessory became popular among remote workers and content creators during the pandemic, making this recall especially significant for the iPhone ecosystem.
Customers can identify recalled devices by checking model numbers printed on the bottom or sides. The Auto-Tracking Stand Pro bears model number MMA008, while the affected power banks show either BPB002 or PB0003. Serial numbers are also required for the refund process, so users should photograph this information before disposal.
